From the August Issue of Treasure Coast Beaches :
“Robert has been involved with boating and the marine industry much of his life. At the age of eight, he lived in Barnegat Light, New Jersey. The neighbor across the street was the captain of a head boat (AKA a “party boat” or “drift boat”), called the “Miss Barnegat Light”.
The head boat Captain’s son was also eight years old, and the two boys would plan every Saturday to go out (with the captain, of course) on the “Miss Barnegat Light” – a 100 ft aluminum catamaran head boat – to go deep sea fishing and catch bluefish. The boys would place the caught fish in a burlap bag, and sell them back on the dock for $2.00 apiece.
Robert got his “feet wet”, so to speak, in the business world at an early age, by setting up a “bluefish stand”, rather than a lemonade stand, as other children his age would have done. Robert hasn’t looked back, as his fishing and boating career has taken off tremendously since then.
He moved to Sebastian in 1978, which at the time was primarily a commercial fishing village. Many of his neighbors were fishermen, so Robert fit in well into his new neighborhood. When he was 15, he started learning his trade as a mechanic, repairing commercial fishing boats and treasure boats – all kinds of boats! He also performed refurbishing, repowering, and repairs on privately-owned boats.
He earned his captain’s license in 1994, and provides commercial and private Captain’s services.”
